Which documents are required to obtain exemption from customs duties?

Passport, residence card or visa, and confirmation of the PESEL number.

A document confirming registration at your place of residence.

An inventory of resettlement property: a detailed list of all items being imported, including the vehicle.

Documents confirming use of the vehicle for more than 6 months, such as the registration certificate, purchase invoice or agreement, and vehicle insurance.

A declaration concerning your residence in Poland.

Documents confirming residence in a third country for at least 12 months.

A printed declaration stating the value of the vehicle and the date and place of border crossing.

Documents confirming the purpose of residence in Poland, such as a tenancy agreement or employment contract.

A border transit document (T) or permission to clear the vehicle without it. Update: this document is no longer required.

Any other documents required to obtain exemption from customs duties.

Customs clearance of a vehicle from Belarus or Ukraine in Poland

People moving to Poland from Belarus, Ukraine or another non-EU country may register their vehicle in Poland without paying customs charges and taxes, provided that the statutory conditions are met.

Foreign nationals may use the exemption for resettlement property (mienie przesiedleńcze / mienie przesiedlenia) under the rules of Polish and EU customs law.

Important: importing property with customs exemption requires proof that you are transferring your normal place of residence to Poland.

What is resettlement property?

The resettlement-property procedure allows people moving to Poland from a third country to import personal belongings they used at their previous place of residence without paying customs duties.
The exemption applies to personal property that:
— was owned and used by the person at the previous place of residence for at least 6 months before leaving the country of origin;
— belongs to a person whose normal place of residence was outside the EU for at least 12 months;
— will be used for the same purpose at the new place of residence.

For how long will the vehicle be registered?

The registration is indefinite. The validity of the registration certificate is not limited by the duration of your legal stay in Poland.

Can I sell the vehicle after registering it in Poland?

The registration certificate will contain an additional restriction prohibiting the sale, lending or rental of the vehicle for the following 12 months.

I do not have a residence card. Can I still use the customs exemption for resettlement property?

Yes. When the exemption is granted before you receive a residence card, the customs authority may require a security deposit. The deposit is returned after the required residence document is provided.

How much time do I have to register the vehicle as resettlement property?
